for this Year's Show is
Maytag Gas Engine
|

A
rare 1919 fruit jar Maytag gas engine owned
by Pioneer Harvest Fiesta Member and
Maytag Collector Club President,
Leonard Walburn.
|
The Maytag fruit jar engine was one that
was very short lived. Much of what led to it's demise was the fruit jar
gasoline tank. It was designed in such a way that it was nearly
impossible to screw on the upturned jar without spilling gasoline. This
made the danger of fire or explosion very possible. It was made from
the late 1919's through the 1920's. This engine was first used on the
model 72 washer from September 1921- March 1922. It was then used
on the model 82 washer from March 10, 1922 until March 20, 1923.
Only around 11,000 of these engines were made which makes them a very
rare engine. The serial numbers for these engines range from
99860-11301.
